Preparing for Law Programs
Arts courses provide a foundation for studies in law
Many students undertake Bachelor of Arts degrees at Saint Mary’s as the perfect foundation for further education leading to careers in law, justice, public policy, human rights advocacy, policing, immigration, and a diversity of other legal fields.
If you’re interested in pursuing a career in the legal sector, book an appointment with one of our Arts Advisors. They can help guide you toward meeting the admission requirements for your next academic goal while you complete your Bachelor of Arts degree – or perhaps a Bachelor of Environmental Studies, if your goal is environmental law!
Law schools accept students with degrees in disciplines relating to social and political thought, historical context, human behaviour, business and much more. You’ll find many relevant programs in the Faculty of Arts – we’re home to 11 departments such as Criminology, History, Sociology, Political Science, Social Justice & Community Studies, and Philosophy, which offers a pre-law option for Philosophy majors and honours students.
Graduate and professional law programs have specific prerequisites such as the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Be sure to research the admission requirements for your program and school of interest early in your undergraduate degree.
